Certification and levels thereof is one of the most frequently discussed issues in thermography. With few standards addressing certification, purchasers of infrared inspection services and thermographers often ask, “How much certification is necessary?”
Taken at face value, certification generally indicates one’s level of formal training. This training, combined with experience and knowledge of the system or structure being inspected determine a thermographer’s qualifications.
The American Society for Nondestructive Testing document, SNT-TC-1A provides suggested training and experience hours for thermographers under the Thermal/Infrared test method; however, it is up to an employer to determine his/her client’s needs and to set certification requirements accordingly.
In a larger sense, certification is a measure of a thermographer’s professional qualifications. It is therefore incumbent on the professional thermographer to achieve the highest level of certification possible. The rewards for doing so are both personal and professional and can provide significant financial and competitive advantages
Infraspection Institute’s Level I, II, and III Certified Infrared Thermographer® training courses are recognized worldwide and comply with training requirements as oultined in SNT-TC-1A.
