Techniques for
Accurate Temperature Measurement
Description
Non-contact temperature measurement is one the most common tasks
performed by thermographers. While most infrared instrumentation
is relatively easy to operate, accurate temperature measurement
depends upon proper selection and use of the instrument as well
as instrument calibration. This short course will focus on several
key issues affecting the accuracy of radiometric temperature measurements
and suggestions for reducing errors. This course is a must for anyone
wishing to make accurate non-contact temperature measurements.
Learning outcomes
This course will enable you to:
- select infrared equipment appropriate for specific applications
- identify common error sources when making non-contact temperature
measurements
- measure and compensate for errors caused by emittance, transmittance
and reflectance
- check radiometer performance against known temperature references
- understand alternate methods for cross-verifying radiometric
temperature values
Intended audience
This material is intended for anyone wishing to use infrared equipment
to accurately measure temperatures. Course will cover equipment
selection and operation, equipment calibration, compensating for
error sources and cross verification of radiometric temperature
data.
